Network drive for file storage/access

I have a MacBook pro and am purchasing a iMac for my home. My files are all stored on my MacBook, which is out of disk space.

I would like a solution where I can migrate all my files (iPhoto (soon to be photos), itunes, MSFT office files, etc) to a networked drive location so I can access/edit them from either my MacBook or iMac.

I've done some research on NAS drives on this community and am seeing mixed reviews.

Can anyone give me recommendations?
